Still needs a new engine. Still gonna do it. And shocks. And big-ass brakes. And wheels.

I wish. The idea of a 300HP Camry excites me. But alas, CARB would be not for it...

But you could get that engine in U.S. sold cars like the Vibe GT/Matrix XRS(03-04 are the best years), some Corolla XRS years, and the Celica GTS.

I initially looked into a newer 2.4. Nope.

Same year engine from the V6? Nope.

Gotta be a 5-SFE or there will be miles of red tape. The 5-SFE was available in the Celica with a different head I believe. Everything I read on Toyota Nation indicated that it was more effort than it was worth... The ECU on the Camry has a pretty undefeatable "fail safe" which resets the whole timing system if modifications are made.

Oh yeah I forgot we can't do that here

Can't put a newer, more efficient engine in either. God I hate the stupid rules here.

But California girls though... So worth it.

3S-GE / 3S-GTE is where it's at.

I'd rather have the screaming redline.

But, but... torque. Nearly 100 ft-lbs more.

You totally can swap in a newer engine. Just bring over all the smog equipment and you can most likely get it certified.

If I don't have the OE stuff, the smog shop won't touch it.

I'd likely need to go all the way to Sacremento to do such a thing, and that's time (Full time student +25 hours a week of work) and money I don't really have.

That's because you need to get it BAR'd. It's a PITA, but if you really want it done...

Anyways, are you at Sac State or UCD by any chance? Just being nosy.

Shasta College, currently. Hoping to get to UCD next semester but I'm not set on it. Tons of friends there though.
